The items "dry earth" and "incidental expenses" have been amalgamated under the latter heading, and a sum of $75 (25+50) placed in the Estimate accordingly.
Chinese teacher for Headmaster of Belilios Reformatory.
Dr. Curwen requested to be allowed to draw a teacher's allowance to enable him to study Chinese. On the recommendation of the Inspector of Schools, an allowance of $15 was granted. It was found impossible to engage a teacher at $10 as the ricksha hire comes to $45 a month.
On the recommendation of the Inspector of Schools, Mr. Bullin, Assistant Master at the Belilios Reformatory, was granted an allowance of $10 a month in order to enable him to study Chinese. In this case, the grant of ricksha hire was not required.
Queen's College. The retirement of Mr. Machell reduced the number of Senior Assistant Masters from 5 to 4, and on the recommendation of the Headmaster, it was decided to revert to the previous arrangement of 4 Senior Assistant Masters and 4 Junior Assistant Masters instead of 5 Senior and 2 Junior Assistants.
Mr. I. K. Seymour was accordingly, with the approval of the Secretary of State, appointed Junior Assistant Master, and no promotion was made to fill the place of Mr. Machell.
